Colossians 1:15-20 MSG “We look at this Son and see the God who cannot be seen. We look at this Son and see God’s original purpose in everything created. For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank after rank of angels—everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. He was there before any of it came into existence and holds it all together right up to this moment.
And when it comes to the church, he organizes and holds it together, like a head does a body. He was supreme in the beginning and—leading the resurrection parade—he is supreme in the end. From beginning to end he’s there, towering far above everything, everyone. So spacious is he, so roomy, that everything of God finds its proper place in him without crowding. Not only that, but all the broken and dislocated pieces of the universe—people and things, animals and atoms—get properly fixed and fit together in vibrant harmonies, all because of his death, his blood that poured down from the cross.”
It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the many things that are pulling for our attention and energy. There are simply so many things that need to be fixed! This has always been the case but it seems so much more visible to us in these days – so many issues, all around the globe. Broken people, broken systems, broken nations, broken hearts. We most certainly need a Savior.
It’s so easy to get caught up in the thinking that if Jesus would only fix this particular issue, then at least one thing would be better. Perhaps it’s an issue in our church, or a personal particular issue or perhaps it’s a personal passion of social justice or some other passion. We most certainly need an active Savior. It’s so easy to get confused by the messages from people that we trust that seem to contradict other people we trust. It’s frustrating and confusing to not have consensus on a particular stance or belief.
We most certainly need an active righteous Savior. It’s so easy to get angry and impatient, and emotionally involved in the cultural changes and systemic flaws and inconsistencies; so much so that even when I pray I might even be finding myself pretty much telling Jesus that He needs to do something right now or we’re toast.
We most certainly need an active, righteous, working Savior.
And here’s the good news. He is an active, righteous and working Savior – even if we don’t see it or feel it and notice it or sense it. He is supreme, from beginning to end, so “spacious” that everything finds its proper place in Him – at the right time, in the right way.
And so what do we do while He is actively, righteously saving and working? We focus on Jesus – at the center of it all. Even when my mind and soul may be screaming to “just do something”, I reign in my impatience and focus on Jesus. How we do that may be a very individualistic thing but it will always involve a decision of my will to do so.
And as I do, the Spirit will bring clarity, assurance, energy and focus. And for me, it will always involve a decision to worship no matter what. So here is a link to a helpful “tool”, a worship song to help us focus on Jesus, the center of it all. https://youtu.be/cppk44JFVMk
